How this project makes an impact
Founded in 1994, SEEDS had one ultimate goal: building the resilience of people exposed to disasters and climate change impacts. In India’s disaster-prone areas, families often lose homes and income but this loss can be invisible and financial support is either completely unconnected or faces long delays. Paper-based systems are slow, unclear, and frequently exclude the most vulnerable which create pathways to even greater vulnerability and insecurity.
How AI drives resilience
SEEDS uses AI, satellite data, and community verification to assess damage in real time, ensuring families receive fast, fair, and transparent disaster compensation directly to their accounts. AI rapidly cross-checks household loss reports and photos with satellite images and weather data to verify damage and links verified cases to government and donor schemes through real-time dashboards.
Marginalized groups gain visibility and protection, while authorities use accurate data to plan better recovery. The result is a scalable, AI-powered model for inclusive climate resilience across India, which will be evidenced in this project via the onboarding of 50,000 households across 5 districts in 3 states, each backed by e-wallets to link people directly to eligible benefits.
